Ape Unit

If not the fastest, by far the weirdest grindcore/powerviolence act emerged from the Italian punk-hc undergrowth over the last 15 years. Deeply inspired by British peers such as Horsebastard, Ona Snop and Endless Swarm and the American noise-rock / no wave subculture of the 90s alike, the apes have been monkeying around since 2008 and released a total of 2 albums, 4 eps, and a split so far.

Their latest work – “STICKS” – was recorded and mixed by Dave Donvito at Magma Recording Studio in Turin, mastered by James Plotkin in the States and eventually released in April 2026 by a party of 10 DIY labels across Europe, Japan and overseas. This ep sets a new starting point for the band with its newly established  4-piece line-up and pushes the sonic boundaries towards a broader range where the punkish, irreverent and self-mocking approach to songwriting meets the trademark hectic structures, furious riffing and unpredictable time and mood changes with renewed energy and impact.
